1. Introduction
Balance 7 Days ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Balance 7 mobile application ("the App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you use our App. We are committed to protecting your privacy and handling your data transparently.
By using the App, you consent to the data practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.
2. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
a) Information You Provide Directly
- Account Information: First name, last name, email address, phone number, and password when you register.
- Profile Information: Sex, height, weight, age, exercise frequency, journaling habits, and profile photo.
- Wellness Data: Mood ratings, daily journal entries, nutrition logs, food photos, weight entries, reading and screen time tracking, and inner child activity logs.
- Voice Recordings: Audio recordings you voluntarily create during daily check-ins.
- Goals: Personal wellness goals you set within the App.
b) Information Collected Automatically
- Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and unique device identifiers for authentication purposes.
- Usage Data: Timestamps of your interactions with the App, features used, and sync activity.
c) Information from Third-Party Sources
- Apple HealthKit: With your explicit permission, exercise workouts, sleep analysis, and weight measurements (read-only access).
- Phone Contacts: With your permission, phone numbers from your contacts are checked against our user database to help you find friends (numbers are normalized and compared securely; we do not store your full contact list).
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Provide Services: To operate the App, generate wellness scores, and deliver personalized insights.
- AI Analysis: To transcribe voice recordings and extract wellness patterns using artificial intelligence (see Section 4).
- Social Features: To connect you with friends and display high-level wellness status among connected users.
- Data Sync: To synchronize your data across sessions and provide cloud backup.
- Communication: To send service-related notifications and respond to support requests.
- Improvement: To understand how the App is used and improve our features and services.
We do not use your data for advertising purposes. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.
4. Voice Recordings & AI Processing
When you use the voice check-in feature:
- Your audio recording is transmitted securely to OpenAI's API for transcription.
- The transcribed text is analyzed by AI to extract wellness insights, detect emotional patterns, and generate structured data.
- We store the transcript, AI-generated summary, and detected emotions as part of your account data.
- The original audio recording is processed and not retained on our servers after transcription.
- OpenAI processes the data according to their API data usage policy. We use their API in a configuration where your data is not used to train their models.
You can choose not to use voice features at any time without affecting other App functionality.
5. Apple HealthKit Data
If you grant permission, we access the following HealthKit data in read-only mode:
- Exercise and workout data
- Sleep analysis data
- Weight measurements
This data is used exclusively within the App to populate your wellness dashboard and calculate weekly scores. In accordance with Apple's HealthKit guidelines:
- HealthKit data is never shared with third parties.
- HealthKit data is never used for advertising or marketing.
- HealthKit data is stored securely and separately from other analytics.
- You can revoke HealthKit access at any time via your device's Settings > Privacy & Security > Health.
6. Contacts Data
If you choose to use the friend-finding feature:
- Phone numbers from your contacts are normalized to a standard format and compared against our user database.
- We only check for matches — we do not upload, store, or retain your full contacts list.
- Matched contacts who are Balance 7 users are displayed so you can choose to add them as friends.
- You can skip this feature entirely and add friends manually using referral codes.
7. Data Sharing & Third Parties
We share your information only in the following limited circumstances:
- OpenAI API: Voice recordings are sent for transcription and AI analysis (see Section 4).
- Cloud Infrastructure: Your data is stored on Vercel (hosting) and Upstash Redis (database) infrastructure. These providers process data on our behalf under data processing agreements.
- Connected Friends: Friends you connect with can see your first name, profile photo, and a high-level weekly wellness summary (not detailed health data).
- Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
- Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your data may be transferred as part of that transaction.
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your data with advertisers.
8. Data Storage & Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:
- Data is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework with on-device encryption.
- Cloud data is transmitted over HTTPS (TLS encryption in transit).
- Passwords are hashed using bcrypt before storage — we never store passwords in plain text.
- Authentication uses JSON Web Tokens (JWT) for secure session management.
- Access to our server infrastructure is restricted to authorized personnel.
While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of your data.
9. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services:
- Active Accounts: Your data is retained for the duration of your account.
- Account Deletion: When you delete your account through the App's Profile settings, all your data is permanently removed from our servers.
- Inactive Accounts: We may delete accounts and associated data after an extended period of inactivity, with prior notice to your registered email.
10. Your Rights & Choices
You have the following rights regarding your personal data:
- Access: You can view all your data within the App at any time.
- Correction: You can update your personal information through the Profile section.
- Deletion: You can delete your entire account and all associated data at any time through Profile > Delete Account.
- Data Portability: Your data is accessible through the App and stored locally on your device.
- Consent Withdrawal: You can revoke permissions for HealthKit, contacts, voice recording, and other optional features at any time without affecting core App functionality.
- Opt-Out of Social Features: You can remove friend connections and choose not to participate in social features.

11. Cookies & Analytics
The App itself does not use cookies. Our website (balance7days.com) may use essential cookies for basic functionality. We do not use third-party advertising trackers or analytics services that track you across other apps or websites.
12. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will promptly delete that information. 13. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed and stored on servers located in the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other jurisdictions where our service providers operate. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
14. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you through the App and update the version number and effective date at the top of this document. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
